Teaching English Language Learners

Teachers and support staff will be provided with current information about teaching English language learners. An overview of Second Language Acquisition will be discussed, including the difference between Basic Interpersonal Communication skills (BICs) and Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (CALPS). A repertoire of research-based strategies will be introduced that enhance reading comprehension and vocabulary learning for English learners.

  • Cynthia Stacy-Sevigny

    Cynthia is an adjunct professor for the University of New Hampshire’s Education Department.   Additionally, she has 30+ years’ experience in the Manchester School District as  a classroom teacher, an ESL teacher and  District Mentor. She has presented workshops to educators on a multitude of topics, and her interests are Teacher Mentoring and Teaching English Language Learners.
