Conflict Cycle: Prevention and Response Strategies

New Featured Speaker Workshop!

Conflict may lead students to engage in behaviors that provoke inappropriate reactions from caring adults and escalate with predictable undesirable outcomes. Avoid getting into destructive power struggles that can lead to increasingly unsafe behaviors. Address the difficulty of challenging problem behavior and respond to conflict effectively. Participants learn to recognize negative thoughts, feelings, behavior and personal triggers contributing to the conflict cycle. Sadly, ineffective response strategies inadvertently reinforce the very behaviors identified as counter-productive. Join us to study evidenced-based response strategies designed to reduce the likelihood of escalating behaviors in the conflict cycle while building supportive relationships with children and youth. Participants will be given practical examples and materials and have opportunities to practice designing and using the strategies.
