Introduction to Audio Engineering Part 1 (Basic Techniques)

This multi-day course is uniquely designed for those new to the art of recording and producing music. In this course, students will learn the most crucial techniques of audio engineering prior to the mixing and mastering process, all while receiving hands-on experience. Students will gain mastery in the use of audio equipment as well as principles of critical listening, digital audio, Pro Tools, and recording.

Optional Add-on: For one full business day, students can shadow Justin at Cybersound Studios! Students will be fully immersed in a professional, post-production studio. Students are encouraged to ask questions and to sit in on sessions as appropriate. This add-on can be applied at checkout.

Introduction to Audio Engineering Part 1 (Basic Techniques)

This course will be held at our training location at 231 Corporate Drive in Portsmouth, NH on the Pease Tradeport.

Parking Information
Free parking is available onsite at our at Portsmouth location. We recommend parking toward the back of the building as the entrance to our classrooms and office are located in the back.

Directions

From the North/West on the Spaulding Turnpike: Enter the Pease Tradeport from Exit 1. Turn right at the bottom of the ramp onto Newington Street.  At the first set of lights turn left onto International Drive.  At the intersection, make a left onto Corporate Drive. Our location will be on your left.

From the South on I-95: Enter the Tradeport from Exit 3 off I-95. Take a left at the top of the ramp onto NH-33 West, then a right at the light onto the Grafton Road. Turn left onto Corporate Drive. Our location will be on your left.

From the North on I-95: Take Exit 5 onto NH-16 North/US-4 West, then Exit 1 for Gosling Road.  Turn left onto Gosling Road and continue onto Newington Road.  Turn left onto International Drive.  At the intersection, make a left onto Corporate Drive. Our location will be on your left.

Introduction to Audio Engineering Part 1 (Basic Techniques)

  • Justin Sheriff

    Justin Sheriff is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music with over twenty years of experience in music. Justin started at Cybersound Studios in Boston, MA as an intern in 2012, and is now working as the head audio engineer. Justin has worked with notable artists such as: Run-DMC, DMX, Chief Keef, Lauv, Greg Hawkes (The Cars), and more. Justin has produced work on the following corporate projects: Xyzal, SONOS, Billboard Women in Music Awards, Audible.com, 10% Happier, Runkeeper, and voice recognition software for Amazon Alexa. Justin is passionate about teaching audio engineering, and aspires to provide students with the skill sets necessary to have ultimate control over their sound. In this course, Justin is prepared to create an environment comparable to working within a professional post-production studio.

Do I need previous experience to take this course?

No, you do not! This course is great for both beginners and experienced students. Each day of the course will be curated specifically to each individual's experience level with plenty of 1-on-1 time and room for questions.

Do I need to purchase and/or have any equipment for this course?

Nope! This course does not have any required materials, software, equipment, etc. Our instructor will gladly inform you on all aspects of what equipment you could look into for future use. There will also be demo equipment for use during class hours. If you currently have your own equipment, computer, etc., you are more than welcome to bring it with you to class.

Is this course also a major and/or program of study at UNH?

Currently, it is not. This specific course is non-credit through UNH Professional Development & Training.
