New Workshop!
Picturing Writing offers an innovative approach to teaching writing and fostering a love of reading that has been proven effective for a wide range of learners.  Following a lively video overview of Artists/Writers Workshop and the Picturing Writing process, teachers will spend much of the day participating in a Picturing Writing hands-on workshop. They will experience the four basic steps of Artists/Writers Workshop. Teachers will learn how to use quality picture books as mentor texts, practicing close reading of both text and image. They will learn how to create simple crayon resist paintings; how to read their paintings to draw out descriptive language, and how to write descriptive passages and poetry. Teachers will receive a brief overview of research findings and will be shown examples of how Picturing Writing can be integrated into their science and social studies curriculum. Reluctant artists welcome! No prior art experience necessary. Course fee includes teacher resources and art supplies.
