Professional Development & Training is a unit of UNH’s Office of Outreach and Engagement. Our mission is to serve the professional development needs of individuals, organizations, and schools in New Hampshire and the surrounding region by offering a wide range of opportunities.

Our programs are designed to assist professionals in gaining knowledge and developing skills in a variety of fields. Instruction provides a balance of theory and practical skills that participants can immediately apply to the workplace.

Over 250 one-day workshops and Certificate Programs are offered throughout the year. 

Our workshops and Certificate Programs are non-credit (not for University academic credit), so no pre-approval to register is necessary. Each seminar awards CEUs (continuing education units) that are recorded on a transcript. CEUs attest to your professional development and may be used towards licensure and continuing education requirements for many professions.

University of New Hampshire - Durham Campus 

Directions to Durham 

Durham is located off NH Route 4 between Portsmouth and Concord, NH. Follow the signs on Route 4. The Main Street of Durham goes through the campus. Classes are held in various buildings on campus. Specific details on your program location will be sent at least two business days prior to your workshop.  

The main campus address is 105 Main Street, Durham, NH. 

Parking

Weekday parking: For any weekday events being held on the main campus, PD&T will cover the parking fee and provide you with parking details specific to your programOn weekdays, we generally issue a unique code that can be used at the pay and display stations in designated parking lots.  

Paid parking is also available in select locations. A pass can be purchased from pay and display” stationsStations take coins or credit cards (Visa/MasterCard/Discover/American Express). They do not take bills and do not issue change. 

Weekend parking: Limited free parking is available in designated faculty/staff and commuter lots after 6:00 p.m. all day on Saturday/Sunday. If you are attending a weekend workshop, PD&T will provide you specific information on the parking options closest to your program location.

Parking Information 

Free parking is available onsite at our Portsmouth location. We recommend parking toward the back of the buildingas the entrance to our classrooms and office is located at the back of the building. Please enter through the rear door with “UNH” logo.

  • From the North/West on the Spaulding Turnpike: Enter the Pease Tradeport from Exit 1. Turn right at the bottom of the ramp onto Newington Street.  At the first set of lights turn left onto International Drive.  At the intersection, make a left onto Corporate Drive. Our location will be on your left. 

     

  • From the South on I-95: Enter the Tradeport from Exit 3 off I-95. Take a left at the top of the ramp onto NH-33 West, then a right at the light onto the Grafton Road. Turn left onto Corporate Drive. Our location will be on your left. 

     

  • From the North on I-95: Take Exit 5 onto NH-16 North/US-4 West, then Exit 1 for Gosling Road.  Turn left onto Gosling Road and continue onto Newington Road.  Turn left onto International Drive.  At the intersection, make a left onto Corporate Drive. Our location will be on your left.

  • From the South: Take I-93 North to I-293 North. After the Brown Avenue exit, stay to the right as I-293 N bears right. Stay on 293 North and take Exit 5, Granite Street. Turn right off ramp onto Granite Street. Proceed over the bridge and through two sets of lights. Follow the parking sign to the parking garage on the left.  

     

  • From the East: Take I-95 to Exit 2. Go through tolls and bear right onto Route 101 West. Follow Route 101 West to I-93 North. Take Exit 8, Bridge Street/Wellington. Take a right at end of exit onto Wellington Road. Go through lights – Wellington Road becomes Bridge Street. Follow Bridge Street to Elm Street. Take a Left onto Elm Street. Take a right onto Pleasant Street. Turn into the Radisson’s main entrance and proceed into the parking garage.  

     

  • From the North: Take I-93 South to I-293 South (bear left after toll for 293). Take Exit 5, Granite Street. Bear left onto Granite Street. Proceed over the bridge and through two sets of lights. Follow the parking sign to the parking garage on the left.  

     

  • From the Northwest: Take I-89 South. Merge onto I-93 South in Concord. Follow directions above for I-93 South.  

Parking Garage Information 

  • Upon entering the garage, take a parking ticket from the automated machine. 

  • Park in any available non-reserved parking space. 

  • Make sure to bring your parking ticket with you to your workshop for validation. Without validation, you will be responsible for paying to park in the garage. 

  • Walk west on Granite Street (towards I-293/Merrimack River). UNH Manchester is at the intersection of Granite Street and Commercial Street, a 6-minute walk from the parking garage. 

  • At your workshop, PD&T staff will validate your parking ticket. 

  • At the end of the day, exit the garage via a lane staffed with a parking attendant by handing them your validated parking ticket. You will be responsible for paying to park if exiting the garage via an automated lane. 

Additional Notes on Parking 

  • Please do not park in Student Parking spaces at UNH Manchester (88 Commerical Street). Your car will be towed at your own expense if you do not have an approved parking pass.  

  • If you have an accessibility concern, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance of your workshop to request accessible parking.  

  • Street parking is available on a first come, first serve basis on Commerical Street and throughout Manchester via Pay and Display meters. Those electing to use Pay and Display street parking do so at their own expense (and will have to leave the workshop to re-up the machine).

How to Register 

Online 

To register online for any of our programsplease follow the steps below: 

  1. From the Professional Development & Training webpage, click on the link to "Programs", then the category/topic you're interested in. Alternatively, click on "Course Search"and search by the Course Reference Number (CRN), or by variety of keywords. 

  1. Locate the program of interest. 

  1. On the program description page, the sections that are currently available for registration will be listed. If the course is not currently available and registration is closed, it will indicate that no sections are offered. 

  1. Click on the Add to Cart” buttonthen choose to continue to add other items to your cart or go to Checkout. 

  1. New users will be asked at Checkout to create a username and passwordif you already have an account, please log in with your existing username and password. 

  1. Move through the Checkout process. (Note: prior to final checkout you will be asked to enter your credentials again to complete the transaction).

Calendar & Closures 

Professional Development & Training programs do not adhere to UNH’s semester-based academic calendar since PD&T programs are offered throughout the year and can span multiple semesters or terms. PD&T program information can be found at training.unh.edu. PD&T adheres to UNH’s scheduled holidays and closures. For a current list of UNH holidays and closures visit unh.edu/hr/holidays 

Enrollment Requirements 

Professional Development & Training programs are open enrollment, available to the public without academic or professional prerequisites, and do not involve a formal admission process. As space allows, enrollment is generally open until midnight, the day before a program is scheduled to take place. (The only exceptions are the UNH Coding Boot Camp and UNH Data Analytics Boot Camp, which require a more detailed application and admission process). 

Attendance 

Student attendance is mandatory for all Professional Development & Training programs. If a student does not attend the required number of program sessions (as determined by the program instructor) a student may not receive CEUs for the program. 

Academic Progress 

Professional Development & Training students are evaluated on a Complete/Incomplete basis. “Complete” criteria includes a student attendance for, and participation in, all aspects of the program. “Incomplete” criteria describes a student who does not attend, and or participate in, some or all aspects of the program.  Students who successfully complete a program will receive a letter of completion that is also archived by Professional Development & Training’s registrar. (The only exceptions are the UNH Coding Boot Camp and UNH Data Analytics Boot Camp, which in addition to having mandatory attendance and participation, also have periodic graded assessments and projects.) 

Student Conduct 

Students participating in any program organized by Professional Development & Training must abide by the University of New Hampshire’s Student Rights, Rules, and Responsibilities (unh.edu/student-life/student-rights-rules-responsibilities). Failure to abide by these guidelines will result in immediate removal from a program without the student receiving credit for participation, or receiving a refund. 

Prior Learning 

Professional Development & Training does not grant credit or equivalency for any programs not administered by PD&T. Information about continuing education units is described on each program-specific webpage. CEUs are issued to PD&T open-enrollment students at no additional cost as long as they have completed the course requirements successfully.

Refunds or transfers for students who are unable to meet attendance and participation requirements are handled on a case-by-case basis and can be filed with the Professional Development & Training registrar at (603) 862-7380. General refund and program cancellation policies are described below. 

  • UNH Professional Development & Training issues refunds for workshops, less a $25 administrative fee, if written cancellation from the student is received at least five business days prior to the start of the PD&T workshop. Refunds for conferences are issued, less a $50 administrative fee, if written cancellation is received from the student at least 10 business days prior to the conference. Some conferences and institutes may have special refund policies, which are described on the conference website or in the conference brochure. 

  • UNH Professional Development & Training reserves the right to cancel any courses due to insufficient enrollment at least three days prior to the first session. Cancellations due to issues beyond our control such as weather or instructor emergencies may also occur. PD&T makes every effort to notify participants by phone and/or email as soon as the decision has been made to cancel a course (no later than 3 business days prior to the course start date).

Available discounts will be noted on individual course pages, under “Potential Discount(s)”.  

  • UNH Alumni Discount 

  • Members of the University of New Hampshire/Durham alumni community are eligible for a 10% discount off UNH Professional Development & Training workshops and conferences.* 

  • Use the code UNH-Alum in the Apply a Discount” field when registering online. Your registration will be finalized upon confirmation of alumni status. For questions about discount eligibility, call (603) 862-7380.  

  • USNH employees who are also UNH alumni may use one code - the tuition benefit discount OR the UNH alumni discount. 

*Discount does not apply towards courses offered externally through vendor programs such as Coding Boot Camp, Ed2GoGreenFig, Springboard, TrilogyVESI. 

  • Extension Discount? This is listed as a possible discount on individual course pages.  

     

  • USNH Tuition Waivers 

 

If you are a benefits-eligible USNH employee, your tuition benefit will cover approximately 47% of the fee (the total tuition amount minus the cost of meals, handouts, and facilities) of PD&T non-credit offerings. The benefit may exclude some special programs and/or online noncredit offerings*. UNH staff may also be eligible to apply for the Staff Professional Development Grant (this program is handled through Human Resources; please visit https://www.unh.edu/hr/learning-assist#sg). 

If you wish to use your USNH tuition benefit towards one or more Professional Development & Training (PD&T) offerings, the process is as follows:

1) Log in to your WISE account to submit a request for the tuition benefit. Please do this the same day you register for the course*. Be sure to select Univ of NewHampshire-Noncredit in the USNH Institution of Course field, and then select the “Semester/Term” for the course you will be registering for. 

2) Register for the PD&T offering through the training.unh.edu website, and in the “Apply a Discount” field, enter USNH. Your tuition will be automatically recalculated to include the employee discount. 

3) Continue checkout. If you are paying for the balance with personal funds, you may pay by credit card or select “Invoice in Full” to receive an invoice to pay by check. If your department is paying for the remainder of the balance by internal transfer, please select “Invoice in Full”. Once you receive your invoice, please contact our main office at pdt.enrollment@unh.edu to provide your FOAPAL details. We are unable to accept pCards or encumbrances for internal purchases.

*More information on completing your WISE form: 

If approved, your request will be automatically routed from WISE and available to PD&T for processing. If you indicated the course was during work hours, the request is routed to your supervisor and Human Resources for approval. If registering for multiple courses during work hours, please note you are required to submit a separate tuition benefit request for each course in WISE. Once approved, your request will be reflected in your WISE account and PD&T will be notified. If your tuition benefit request is not approved or you did not submit a request in WISE, your discount will be voided and you will be responsible for paying the full amount.

For Professional Development & Training payments by companies or schools:  If your company or school is paying by a method other than a credit card, please submit your registration request online and then select the option to 'pay by another method' during the checkout process, and then contact the Professional Development & Training Office (603-862-7380) to make arrangements.

When you proceed through checkout, you are entering your credit card information with a payment gateway--a vendor who processes our credit card payments. We do not collect or retain credit card information in our application.

  • Receipt 1:  You receive a receipt from us (UNH-Learn.For.Life@unh.edu) verifying that your payment has been received. If this is your initial payment, this also registers you.
  • Receipt 2:  You receive a receipt from our payment gateway (usnh_asp@infinet-inc.com), who processed the transaction. Your credit card statement will have a description containing UNH/KSC/PSU/GSC/USNH
