Basics of Writing in the Workplace

The ability to craft clear, concise written communication is essential for success in the workplace. This introductory, two-part workshop will teach participants how to formulate ideas and organize thoughts before writing, as well as the logistics of good writing. It will also cover how to maintain clarity and focus, how to compose strong sentences and cogent paragraphs, and the importance of basic grammar and punctuation. Participants will also learn how to eliminate jargon and how to write lively, precise, engaging copy. 

Participants will be given a writing assignment to be completed at home and submitted to the instructor between workshops. The second workshop will include intensive discussion of the written assignment, including one-on-one conferencing with the instructor

Basics of Writing in the Workplace

  • David Cataneo

    David Cataneo, a native of Yonkers, NY, graduated with honors from Boston University and worked for 22 years in Boston journalism at the Herald and Globe. He has been an adjunct professor of English and Journalism at the University of New Hampshire since 2009. He is also the director of the UNH Online Writing Lab. Cataneo is the author of six nonfiction books and one novel.
