Teaching Writing Using an Inquiry Approach (K-8)

NEW WORKSHOP

How can we build a writing curriculum that is both engaging and sustaining? How might we effectively supplement an existing writing curriculum by approaching it through an inquiry lens? In this session, Shawna will share how she invites writers of all ages to co-construct knowledge around writing genres, forms, conventions, and craft through an inquiry approach. She will demonstrate how students' own natural wonders and "noticings" around beloved texts can lead to units of study or lessons around writing that are both engaging and sustainable. Whether participants work within a prescribed curriculum or have a great deal of autonomy, every educator will walk away from this workshop with the tools and the inspiration needed to find space for inquiry work alongside their student writers.
