Foster Student and Educator Success, Part 2: Creating a Culture of Learning and Belonging

Course Overview:

Becoming competent in multiple evidence-based modalities can feel overwhelming and lead to burnout, especially when they are learned in fragmented ways. Utilizing the Brain- and Body-Aligned Responsive Systems (BBARS) of Excellence framework, you will learn integrated, evidence-based, practical application strategies. You will walk away knowing how to implement social-emotional learning in both explicit and responsive ways, utilize trauma-responsive approaches to support student needs and behavior, effectively support students with mental health diagnoses, and foster an equitable educational experience from belonging to academic engagement.

This workshop explores practical application approaches to deliver interventions aligned with best practices in social-emotional learning, mental health literacy, trauma-responsive care, and equity within the educator role. Come prepared for an engaging experience that models the use of the framework and includes a variety of learning modalities. Leave feeling empowered to effectively address the needs of your students and your professional self!

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn effective ways to explicitly teach social-emotional learning skills proactively and responsively.
  • Understand the signs and symptoms of mental health disorders and what to do, within your role, when you notice them.
  • Understand how trauma impacts the nervous system and how to implement trauma-responsive strategies to increase felt-safety.
  • Learn effective ways to manage implicit bias and deliver equitable learning experiences.
  • Deepen your own self-awareness and self-management skills to more effectively implement best practice interventions.

* Prior Completion of Foster Student and Educator Success, Part 1 is recommended for a comprehensive understanding of the seminar content.
