Supervisors and managers must understand the basics of employment laws and regulations when dealing with employees, but few have received training in these areas.

This workshop will look at what you need to know to avoid legal and practical issues and to meet your obligations to your employer. It also will assist you in working collaboratively with Human Resources. The workshop can also assist individuals just entering or desiring to enter the field of HR. 

The topics covered include:

  • NH and federal discrimination laws
  • Legal issues to avoid when interviewing, hiring and discharging employees
  • How to deal with a disabled employee
  • Identifying basic FMLA issues
  • Basic concepts in NH and federal wage and hour laws
  • Identifying and avoiding harassment problems.

    Amy Cann

    Amy is the Founder and Senior Consultant at HR ROI, a full-service HR consulting firm located in Pease Tradeport.  Her background includes 20 years of HR and safety experience in-house for US-based organizations and six years of teaching a variety of Human Resources and Business-related subjects as an Adjunct Instructor at Southern NH University and at UNH. 

    Her educational background includes an MBA in Global Studies and Graduate Certificates in Human Resources Management and Social Media Marketing from Southern NH University.  Her undergraduate degree is a dual B.A. in Human Resources Administration and Psychology from Saint Leo University. 

    Amy maintains Senior HR certification through the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and teaches the online SHRM preparation course through SNHU. She also maintains her Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). On the volunteer side, she is the President for the Seacoast HR Association and a Board Member and Head Coach with the Rochester Youth Soccer Association (RYSA).
