Biotechnology – The Supply Chain Behind the Science

The Boston area has consistently been the top location for biotechnology that steadily built a science hub; revolutionizing vaccines and therapies for patients around the world.  The pandemic has shown the need for rapid vaccine development and execution of the supply chain throughout the Clinical Phases.

Today’s Supply Chain professional requires a higher level of skills to address delivering products through the Clinical Phases to Commercialization while dealing with complex issues. 

The demand from Boston’s Biotech boom for supply chain professionals is drastically outpacing the supply. Biotech companies are discovering new potential talent outside their industry sector that just need the supply chain skills behind the science.

The Clinical Supply Chain Workshop is ideal for professionals who want to develop the transferable hard skills of clinical supply chain; while learning how to apply soft skills that are important regardless of specific sector.  Also ideal for supply chain professionals who want to learn more about the exciting and life changing biotech industry, providing the opportunity to demonstrate the understanding of key supply chain theories, practices, and develop skills needed to participate in biotech supply chain.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: 

        • Clinical Supply Chain Fundamentals: The purpose of this course is to set the framework for the student to understand the supply chain requirements and manage clinical trial materials on the study or program level.  The student will become familiar with the end-to-end supply chain clinical sites, packaging sites, depots, clinical supply chain and drug supply.
        • Clinical Forecasting and Scenario Planning: Learn how to design and implement strategic plans to forecast and supply study drugs to global clinical trials using sound supply chain techniques
        • Biologic Resilient Delivery and Controlled Temp Network:  Understand the high-level requirements for global distribution of clinical materials and ensure the appropriate distribution controls are in place to generate required documentation and to ensure correct procedures are in place.
        • Clinical Supply Chain S&OP and Decision Making: Learn how to utilize the Sales and Operational Planning (S&OP) as a key tool and driver for risk identification, mitigation, and decision-making practice.

    Peter Horton, MBA, brings more than 25 years of industry experience commercializing small and large molecule drugs, and medical devices.  Peter has held leadership roles in both early stage and commercial organizations.

    Peter has held various positions at large and small companies including Boston Scientific, Lantheus Medical Imaging, Kiniksa Pharmaceuticals, and TScan Therapeutics, Inc.
