This 8-week certificate program is uniquely designed for those new to the art of recording and producing music. In this certificate program, students will learn the most crucial techniques of audio engineering prior to and following the mixing and mastering process, all while receiving hands-on experience. Students will gain mastery in the use of audio equipment as well as principles of critical listening, digital audio, Pro Tools, and recording. You will then learn how to craft audio recording with the utmost precision to create sound of the highest quality, and learn how to properly mix & master your work.

Meet Your Instructor: Industry Professional - Justin Sheriff

Justin is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music with over twenty years of experience in music. Justin started at Cybersound Studios in Boston, MA as an intern in 2012 and is now working as one of the head audio engineers.

Justin has worked with notable artists such as: Run-DMC, DMX, Chief Keef, Liam Payne, Flume, Máiréad Nesbitt (Celtic Women) and Lauv to name a few.

Justin recorded, mixed and mastered RIAA certified gold single, “Ashes” by Stellar that has over 150,000,000 streams, ranked within the top 5 of the US and Global Viral Top 50 Spotify playlists and was signed to Sony records.

Justin has worked with actors such as: Yara Shahidi, Bryan Cranston, John Malkovich, Dennis Leary, Benjamin Bratt and many more.

Justin has produced work on the following corporate projects and television platforms: Disney, Netflix, ESPN, Billboard Women in Music Awards, Sony Pictures, Audible.com, Penguin Random House, Simon and Schuster, Xyzal, Sonos, Motorola, Google, Progressive, ASICS, 10% Happier, Hawaii 5.0, voice recognition software for Amazon Alexa and much more.

Do I need previous experience to take this course?

No, you do not! This course is great for both beginners and experienced students. Each day of the course will be curated specifically to each individual's experience level with plenty of 1-on-1 time and room for questions.

Do I need to purchase and/or have any equipment for this course?

Nope! This course does not have any required materials, software, equipment, etc. Our instructor will gladly inform you on all aspects of what equipment you could look into for future use. There will also be demo equipment for use during class hours. If you currently have your own equipment, computer, etc., you are more than welcome to bring it with you to class.

Is this course also a major and/or program of study at UNH?

Currently, it is not. This specific course is non-credit through UNH Professional Development & Training.

Can I attend online/remotely from anywhere?

Absolutely! Students are more than welcome to attend from anywhere they are via our live Zoom sessions.

Can I attend in class some days, and online others?

Yes! All registered students are welcome to attend either online or in-person each week of the program.

Is there a course agenda?

The course agenda is subject to change depending on total class size, questions, etc. If you would like a more concise agenda, please send an email here and we can provide one.

What happens if I miss a day of class?

Each class will be recorded via Zoom, so if you miss a class, you will have the option to watch the Zoom recording to catch up on anything you have missed. The instructor will also reach out with any materials, videos, assignments you would need to complete before the next sessions. Please keep in mind, there are no partial refunds available if you do miss any class time.
