“The Boot Camp does exactly what it says it will. It immerses you and gets you familiar with the important concepts in coding and at the end of the program you come out as a junior developer. If you don’t know time management when you enter the Boot Camp, you learn really quick. I learned how to get a task in front of me that I thought I couldn’t accomplish and yet, I would somehow accomplish it. It has really built up my confidence.

It’s a great experience. The instructor and the TAs are awesome and make the program a great experience. And, meeting other people in the boot camp was another benefit. I know I will talk to the people I met at boot camp long after our graduation.”

What inspired you to learn to code at the coding boot camp?

I had been trying to learn on my own for a while, but, it was hard to stay committed. It was hard to go home each day and set the time aside. When you’ve paid for it and have homework assignments, you are going to commit.

What did you find most challenging about the program?

So much new material comes so quick that it can be hard to soak it all up.

What were your key takeaways?

The boot camp program does exactly what it says you will. It immerses you and gets you familiar with the important concepts and you come out as a junior developer.

Aside from just learning how to code, how did attending the coding boot camp impact your life?

If you don’t know time management when you go into the boot camp, you learn really quick. I learned how to get a task in front of me that I thought I couldn’t accomplish and yet, I would somehow accomplish it. It has really built up my confidence.

What will you be doing, post-grad?

After graduation, I am actually leaving to go to Seattle for another boot camp, through my company, Liberty Mutual. I started as a help desk employee and I believe that I got the job because I was in the bootcamp. There were about 1000 people interviewing and they only hired 60 people. I think think the fact that I was attending boot camp is what set me apart. Now, the company in sending me to another boot camp to continue my education even further as I start working as a developer.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is considering attending the coding boot camp?

My best advice is to do as much learning ahead of time about things like java script because boot camp moves so quickly. You can also give yourself a leg up and do a lot of supplemental studying on the side while you are in the bootcamp.

It’s a great experience. The instructor and the TAs are awesome and make the program a great experience. And, meeting other people in the boot camp was another benefit. I know I will talk to the people I met at boot camp long after our graduation.
