The Certificate Program in Soil Science will provide you with practical skills on how to examine soil profiles, identify how soils develop over time, record test pits, and much more.
The program is offered at Pease in Portsmouth, in Manchester, Durham, and at various off-site locations. The program consists of four required workshops. You are required to complete the program within two years.
4 Required Workshops:
- Hydric Soils of New England OR Basics of Identifying and Documenting Hydric Soils
- Soil Genesis & Classification
- Basics of Soil Morphology
- Introduction to Soil Mapping
Please note that this certificate is exclusively a non-credit continuing education certificate issued by UNH Professional Development & Training. This certificate is not intended to replace or substitute any other license, certificate, or accreditation. CEUs will be issued upon completion of each course.
*In accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines, some of these courses may be temporarily "unavailable." We are expecting to offer these courses in Full Capacity once again in Spring 2022.

What is the cost?
Each individual workshop varies in cost. You may view the tuition price of each workshop by following the links below. Payment when registering can be completed on a class-to-class basis, or all together. There is also a one time $50 certificate administration fee.
How do I register?
Select your course(s) below and continue to "Enroll Now." Follow the steps provided to register for the workshop and reserve your seat. To enroll in the Soil Science Certificate program, add the "SC Enrollment fee" to your cart at checkout when signing up for any of the elective workshops. (An additional one-time $50 fee.)
When should I register?
We highly recommend registering for these workshops early as they tend to fill up. Some courses may have limited seats/spots available.
Where will my course take place?
You may view the location of each workshop above and/or when registering for a course. Specific directions to the course location will be provided upon registration or can be found here.
If the course you are registering for is listed as "Live Online," the workshop will take place in a live virtual format via Zoom. More information will be provided upon registration.
What materials will I need?
For specific information and necessary materials, please view the individual course page for the workshop you would like to regsiter for. You may be required to have certain materials and/or applications downloaded to participate in the course. Reminders about this will be provided via email upon registration.
