Friendly, Not “The Friend”: Setting Boundaries as a New Supervisor |Courtney Daniel
New supervisors will learn how to stay approachable while setting clear professional boundaries with their teams. This interactive session explores supervising former peers, avoiding favoritism and gossip, protecting confidentiality, managing texting and social-media communication, and recognizing when involvement has gone too far. Participants will leave with practical strategies for setting expectations, maintaining trust, and leading without becoming everyone’s friend, fixer, or after-hours point of contact
When an Employee Comes to You: Handling the Unexpected |Talia Rosenblum
An employee steps into your office and says, "Can I talk to you?" Sometimes it is a complaint. Sometimes it is a conflict, a personal struggle, or information you wish you did not have. And sometimes you have no idea what you are being asked to do with it. This session helps new supervisors recognize what kind of moment they are in and choose the right route: when to coach, when to mentor, when to manage, and when to refer. You will learn what never to promise, what to document, and when it is time to bring in HR, along with the reasons behind each. Through realistic scenarios, you will leave with a clear way to respond so the person feels heard and the situation goes where it needs to go.
How To Talk So People Listen. (And Listen So People Talk) | Michael Cinquino
The people your team will actually tell the truth to are not the loudest supervisors, the smartest, or the most senior. They are the ones who learned two skills nobody teaches: how to talk so people listen, and how to listen so people talk. In this session you will learn how to get to the point in the first thirty seconds so your people follow you, how to say the hard thing without triggering defensiveness, and the listening moves that make a person feel heard in the first two minutes and keep them talking when it gets uncomfortable. You will use them on the one-on-one you have coming up, with a partner, in the room, and you will leave knowing exactly what to say on Monday.
Your Survival Plan Since YOU are the SUPERVISR | Armando Llorente
This session will provide a framework for the new leader to succeed. From "How do I get started?" to "How to establish and sustain my credibility and succes," we will discuss proven approaches that help you survive.
"Goals for All" - defining expectations and objectives
"Measuring Progress" - showcasing achievements (yours and your team's) or tackling employee performance shortfalls via coaching and corrective actions
"Dealing with Ambiguity" - reliance on policies and procedures
"Using your Supervisor Lifepreserver" - Top Secret (will be shared in person)
