Become immersed in the realm of Craft Brewing. The UNH Craft Brewing Certificate program serves as a valuable gateway into the world of beer and professional brewing. Whether you are brand new to the industry, or are looking to expand on your own current methods of crafting, this certificate program will provide extensive insight to get you on the right track.

Led by Cheryl Parker, the manager of the UNH Brewery and current instructor for undergraduate and professional development courses in brewing, this certificate will dive into the following: scientific brewing theory, ingredient basics and science, sanitation & safety, quality control and analysis, operations & equipment use, and much more.

This Certificate Program is comprised of 8 elective workshops - all in a live online, virtual format. No matter your location, you will be able to network, discuss, and collaborate with brewers far-and-wide, including insightful discussions with instructor Cheryl Parker and industry-leading guests & speakers.

Certificate Requirements:

  • Completion of eight (8) "elective" workshops

Certificate requires completion of eight "elective" workshops within a two year period.

Join UNH Professional Development & Training for a multi-day workshop designed to teach you the ins and outs of starting your own craft brewery.

Each day will take you deeper into the process as you gather helpful information about funding, brewing logistics, marketing, supplies, ingredients, quality, legal issues, distribution and strategic planning. You’ll leave the workshop with a personalized business plan, new industry contacts, good memories and a better understanding of what it takes to enter the nano/craft brewing market.

Craft Brewing Certificate FAQ:

  • Do I need prior brewing experience prior to enrolling in the certificate and/or courses?

No. There is no prior experience required. Though, if you have least homebrewed before, you will may get more out of the program.

  • Do I need to have any science/chemistry/biology background or knowledge to attend?

No. The program will be tailored to the experience and knowledge of each and every individual who attends. In most cases, we will start completely from scratch!

  • What level is this program specifically targeted for?

Much like our Craft Brewery Startup Workshop, this program is best suited for an avid homebrewer, or someone just looking to start a brewery and take things to a more professional level. An experienced professional brewer may find much of the information not at a level they need.

What is the cost?

Each individual workshop costs $250. You can either enroll on a class-to-class basis or by enrolling in the entire certificate at once ($250 discount). There is also a one time $50 certificate administration fee if you choose to enroll in the certificate on a class-to-class basis. This can be done at any time during the certificate schedule.

How do I register?

Select your course(s) above and continue to "Enroll Now." Follow the steps provided to register for the workshop and reserve your seat. To enroll in the Craft Brewing Certificate program, add the "DD Certificate Enrollment fee" to your cart at checkout when signing up for any of the elective workshops.  (An additional one-time $50 fee.)

When should I register?

We highly recommend registering for these workshops early as they tend to fill up. Some courses may have limited seats/spots available. Enrollment may close up to five days prior to the course start date.

Where will my course take place?

If the course you are registering for is listed as "Live Online," the workshop will take place in a live virtual format via Zoom. More information (links, passwords, etc.) will be provided upon registration.

What materials will I need?

For specific information and necessary materials, please view the individual course page for the workshop you would like to regsiter for. You may be required to have certain materials and/or applications downloaded to participate in the course. Reminders about this will be provided via email upon registration.
