About the SOCIAL EMOTIONAL and LEARNING certificate program

"Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.  It has been seen that social-emotional learning helps children develop positive self-esteem, manage their emotions, set and achieve goals, show empathy for others, and manage stress." - The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL)

Understanding and fostering social and emotional learning (SEL) within a classroom, school, or community is no longer the latest educational fad; it has become a core competency necessary for all educators focused on boosting positive impact and outcomes for their students. Furthermore, creating classroom environments centered around social and emotional learning not only benefit students, it benefits teachers themselves  - educators working in SEL environments report improved classroom behavior and academic outcomes, and in turn, report higher rates of personal and professional success and satisfaction.

The Social and Emotional Learning Certificate with UNH Professional Development & Training offers educators, counselors, and social workers a short-term, noncredit program that offers the latest in theory, strategies, and outcomes around the everchanging world of SEL.

The Social and Emotional Learning Certificate is designed for:

  • K-12 classroom teachers looking to maintain their state licensures through continue education units (CEUs)
